With all the debates going on about corruption, the film “Rafiki”, the constant bombardment of our children with unpalatable content from left to right and the unrelenting peer pressure, isn’t it about time we Christian parents got intentional in our parenting? The future of our children and the society is at stake. As Christian parents we are in a position to secure a remnant in the Lord and for the Lord. A generation that will stand for the right and say no to all manner of ungodliness. This is our primary responsibility. Not the schools, not the media, not the church but our responsibility.
There are many good books and there’s good information out there with good strategies on parenting. But intentional parenting has to be more. Intentional parenting for a believing parent is parenting on our knees. “Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it… (Psalms 127:1). After we have trained up our children in the way they should go so that when they are old they’ll not depart from it (Prov 22:6), we still need our children to be taught by the LORD, so that great shall be the peace of our children (Isaiah 54:13).
On our knees, that’s where every battle is won. We can secure our children’s spiritual, social, relational, academic and career lives early in the Lord by praying for them without ceasing. Remember before he/she was your son/daughter, he/she was the Lord’s (Jer 1:5). We’ll do the actual work of training but we’ll also constantly take them to the Lord in prayer. He will secure them in Him if we ask Him and if we let Him. Amen
